April 2016 Update

There are a few important meetings and opportunities coming up we want to make sure you’re aware of.

This week, the CoC Governance Committee is meeting Wednesday, April 6, at 12 noon.  This month’s meeting will be held at the Central Florida Foundation, located on the 12th floor of the Wells Fargo building, 800 N Magnolia Ave, Orlando FL 32803.  At this meeting we will discuss recusal policies for CoC Board Members.  Although it’s not required, it’s helpful if you RSVP so we can plan for attendance.

Since the HSN offices are moving, we will NOT have the Priorities and Goal committee meeting on this Friday, April 8.

Monday, April 18– morning

Housing First 101: Come learn more about the evidence-based best practice of Housing First! Housing First is a system-wide orientation and response, and is key in our efforts toward ending homelessness. During this training we’ll review the key principles of Housing First and implementation strategies. This interactive training will cause you to examine your program rules, applications, and requirements to see how we can enhance our service models. It will also provide the opportunity to examine specific case studies and collaborate with our partners.

Since space will be limited you will need to let us know you want to attend this training session with presenters from the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH). RSVP by emailing carmen.lewis@hsncfl.org and we will confirm time and place for the event.  This training will likely be repeated, and if there is inadequate space first priority for the 18th will be given to agencies that currently run transitional housing programs.

Monday, April 18 – afternoon

TH Conversion: As part of efforts to improve homeless assistance response systems, many transitional housing providers are retooling their programs to help people move more quickly into permanent housing. Retooling can take many forms, including shortening the amount of time people stay in programs before moving into housing, shifting to rapid re-housing strategies, or providing permanent housing. This workshop, also presented by CSH, will help programs identify the steps involved when considering significant changes to or redesign of your transitional housing program.

The Monday, April 18 afternoon meeting is designed specifically for executive staff and agency board members.  Please RSVP by emailing carmen.lewis@hsncfl.org.  We will notify attendees of the location once we have a better idea of how many will be attending.
